This was begun by H.J. Richmond [and D.J.Hogarth ], 1882, father of William Richmond, 1878- 1945. See obituary "Colac Reformer" , 24 July 1945.

William Richmond driving car past the door to "Colac Reformer" newspaper printing office where Mollie Richmond stands. This was rebuilt after being burnt out 1931. Fires were a constant hazrd in printing presses back when red-hot furnaces were used to melt the lead that formed the letters to be used to print the newspaper.

NEW FACTS PROVEN TO HELP ONE LOOSE WEIGHT!! I saw a very useful British program on TV tonight and i cannot see it on the Internet as some one is selling the DVD. Actual scientific experiments were done on people to prove these NEW points. So to help myself remember i am making a note of the main points here:

FIRSTLY - [not new] I need to weigh the food portions,[ until i learn what is a normal portion] And make a note of it at the time of eating. ALL that is swallowed during 24 hours is recorded. It seems very easy to under estimate the size of portions and remember all things you eat or drink.

SECONDLY: NEW Moderately brisk walking for over an hour causes significant loss of body fat over the next 24 hours!

THIRDLY [ not new] Any little added exercise during a day helps you loose weight... eg walking while on the telephone, moving arms while sitting at computer, park further from a shop so u walk more.

FOURTH : NEW Eating low fat dairy products with a meal cause almost 50% more fat in that meal to be excreted!! see International Journal of Obesity (2008) 32, 1816–1824; doi:10.1038/ijo.2008.173; published online 7 October 2008

FIFTH : NEW Eating a meal pulverised / in a blender, with water into soup keeps the stomach from emptying so fast by a long time...[even compared with a glass of water drunk with the meal ].

SIXTH : NEW Avoid eating at a smorgasbord as this encourages most people to over eat by 30 or 40%! [I cant remember the exact amount].

SEVENTH : NEW Eating some 10% more protein than normal in your diet keeps one satisfied longer.

EATING FROM A SMALLER PLATE -or any food container- ALSO HELPS. - not new

NEVER SKIP MEALS - this causes you to feel starved and to eat fatty unhealthy food to excess.

We left Hervey Bay marina with warnings of rough water with swells of one and half meters and strong winds.. but most had taken pills to prevent motion sickness and enjoyed the rough travel - rather like riding one wave after another in the surf! One really had to hold on very hard to all rails to walk when the boat was under way - it stopped when whales came near.

Rainbow Beach was once only a place where sand mining operated until 1976 and gets its name from Coloured Sands. Other close points of interest are the Carlo Sand Blow, Double Island Point and Inskip Point, the launching point for Fraser Island barges. There seems to be no buildings over 3 storeys high and most seem to be very new.

This is not the place for cosmopolitan-style pleasures - more for the eco-conscious folk.

Tin Can Bay is the best place to feed friendly, wild river dolphins for a gold coin donation! You cannot touch the dolphins but they come very close to see you!

They are worth all the travel to see!

PINE PLANTATIONS SURROUND TIN CAN BAY AND RAINBOW BEACHES - LABELED FORESTS ON MAP... DEVOID OF BIRDS AND NATIVE ANIMALS EXCEPT A FEW KANGAROOS AND WILD HORSES - WARNING ROAD SIGN. The road from Gympie to Tin Can Bay takes about 35 minutes and is amost 50 km. Gympie is 92 km from Mooloolaba beach and is supposed to take one hour 3 minutes according to Whereis... but there are road works all along the Bruce Highway and slow trucks that hold you up...allow 2 hours.

Entry points to this trail are hard to find on the internet as many links go to maps from Eastlink that are vague as they give no road names or car parking and entry points or Melway references.

Access by car or bike in Vermont at the junction of Heatherdale and Tulkara Grove, where a branch trail goes directly east towards the south b order of Ringwood Golf course to Heathmont Golf Course. and on to Bayswater along a Dandenong creek.

One entry point at the northern section of the Trail is on Deep Creek road off Maroondah Highway at Mitcham. see below for photos.

More informaion as I have time to locate other entry points to use by car.

All traffic noise is gone after about 5 miutes walk from Deep Creek Road west towards Quarry Road, as the Eastlink Tollway road is under ground.

This old farm house was built in 1841 on part of a large tract of land including the modern suburbs of Melbourne: Wantirna, Bayswater, Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Selby, Emerald, Upper Beaconsfield, Lysterfield and Rowville, established for farming by Rev. James Clow in 1838... the first permanent settlemnt in the Port Phillip District had only begun in 1835.

In 1874 the huge Bunya Pines were planted at the front of the Chesterfield Homestead.

This farm and house was called Chesterfield Park by a new owner in 1859.

Some roughly hewn wood carvings of animals and people are around the farm too.

It is now a farm in suburban Melbourne! It is open to the public and demonstrates working sheep dogs, hand feeding lambs, and whip cracking, cows being milked and cream being made ...all this within about 100 meters of the Eastlink Toll road.

The Dunmoochin Foundation artists retreat is about 43 KM north east of Melbourne, Victoria. This was set up by Clifton Pugh before his death in 1990 to provide residencies at his heavily treed bush property for artists, writers, sculptors and conservationists. It was not affected by Black Saturday bush fires which raged as close as 12 km away but left a big impression on the artists in residence who all left the area well before.

This was planted in 1867 by Baron von Mueller, now classified by the National Trust. This view of the back of the historic house with white walls is not the best at all... it is a Relais & Chateaux top rated place.

To its left here is a red brick building which houses Matt's Bar and cosy warm Cafe where we had lunch under $20 ea. above the Cellar door with its art gallery and top produce shop.

However The Sweetwater Cafe, in the old homestead looks like a good place for lunch under $40? if you are careful. It is open 7.30am – 5.00pm daily but requires a booking from those not staying in the Chateau. Commonly called the Christian Scientists. ARchitects Bates Smart and McCutcheon built 1934-1939. Much of the original furnishings remain and even includes an elevator or lift that is operated by a system of water tanks. This building has 2 floors, the ground floor has a foyer with staircase and on the floor a large rug in the design of the original mosaics. Behind the foyer is a large room for Sunday school classes for children with specially designed "healthy" chairs still in use.

Well we were lucky and the sky was clear but someone had not learnt how to fully control the camera at night! So some fast learning took place as the eclipse was almost over when I found tht the sky was clear and I only had to step out my front door and point the camera to the eastern sky. Struggled to find what I had to do to get the tripod to keep still as I opened the lens for an automatic time exposure which produced the best results seen here after lots of double and triple exposures done by moving the camera during exposure... should have used the self timer to prevent movement... and planned to get this photo.. thought it was going to be cloudy. This required a four hour drive from Melbourne through beautiful undeveloped farmland from Yarra Glen to Yea then east towards Mansfield with a north turn towards Benalla then another road to Swanpool - passing many vineyards as well as cattle grazing on green grass that has sprouted since the drought has broken. Then we arrived at this beautifully preserved historic gold mining town and took up residence at The Old Priory B&B , which was an excellent venue.

Just got myself a great new necklace tie made by Lydia Crawshaw I have not seen anything quite like this before! Totally lovely and very well conceived and executed.It is made from hand woven shredded silk of many interesting colours with various copper, silver or brass metal beads - see more of her jewellery art at Tarra Warra Art museum in the Yarra Valley.

Austtralian Native Black Swans. This little girl was very busy talking to the swans and seemed to think they would obey her! Gang Gang Cockatoos at Brandy Creek - just a few miles north of Warragul This shows how big these Gang Gang cockatoos are Captive Cockatoo - was apparently hungry so it was fed

Our Australian native animal the Echidna which is very shy and hard to photograph usually! We were lucky he was on the grassy verge of a slow speed section of the highway, but only went a few meters off the road into the bushes.
